Universal Basic Needs

As I observe the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, I know now more than ever a system for meeting the basic survival needs of humans on a federal level is sorely needed. One may think we have programs that cover these needs, but I have used them, and they are highly vetted and take most if not all support away if you have a job.

This move is a huge stepping stone to moving to the next parts of our social design. If you will, this would release pressure on society, giving them the assurance they will always be able to survive and be taken care of regardless of how much money they have.

Another positive of basic needs being met is having the time to think about issues. Most people do not have the time to really sit down and deeply think about problems. This leads us to make quick decisions that don’t consider all the facts, if any at all.

We need what I call the big three in order to really start helping society. Universal Basic Healthcare, Universal Basic Income, Universal Basic Shelter. These three combined will help give us a healthy kick in the right direction.

UBHealthcare makes sense, as we all want to be able to access healthcare services when we have need. We even have played this insurance game, willing to pay premiums for services we never use, or try to use our insurance to find out the procedure isn’t covered. We have been willing to go into ruin paying for hospital bills. UBH would cover everything realated to human physical and behavioral health. The knowledge your aliments are covered is a huge relief on the mind and that energy can be spent on other pursuits.

UBIncome would allow us to insure our basic needs are met, food, utilities, clothing, etc. A person would know they can cover the cost of everyday survival, regardless of job income or status. This type of security would offer more time to search for employment that fit a person, and make it easier to stay at home with family when needed. This basic income combined with job income should allow us to have even more choices in our lives.

UBShelter would provide safe, clean, and lifetime housing for all. This housing is always optional and can be used or not by those that wish it. The housing would be basic, and use cheap easily replaceable, hopefully recyclable in some way, material. When a unit is empty it’s available, if we need more, we make it. Basic housing should not be any bigger than a several hundred square feet. If a person chooses to have a family of ten, they will have to squeeze in so to speak, we don’t want a bunch of empty big shelters. If people want bigger spaces, they will move out of basic housing into a larger homes they pay for, which we have plenty of.

With these 3 needs met, we should see a large shift in our societies well being. We shouldn’t worry about basic survival with the level of technology we now possess. It is my hope we move into this new direction to make way for new and exciting paths for our species.
